His was a family of 9 children, 5 girls and 4 boys, and they lived in a farm area(?) called Fållen near Vislanda in Kronobergs Län. Apparently there was no future for the boys, who were the only surviving members of the family, complicated by their father dying in1884 and their mother remarrying. Three of the boys decided to immigrate to America. Two of them Magni and Nils Peter immigrated in 1886 and took the name Folen from the area or farm where they lived and settled in Portland. My grandfather Carl Johan left Sweden in 1890 and also settled in Portland about 1894 and also used the name Folen. I was told by my uncle Art Foleen that the 3 Folen boys' mail got mixed up and so my grandfather added an extra (e) making it Foleen.The other brother Sven remained in Sweden and made his home in Vislanda. At least 3 of his male children also immigrated to America. I believe all took the name Foleen. [Carl Ramond (Ray) Foleen]
